How to speak Turkish in English
Posted On July 16, 2021
As many as 30,000 people from across Turkey have registered to take part in the Turkish language competition.
Organisers say the event, dubbed “TurkTalks”, is a chance for local speakers to meet and learn about the country, which has been hit by several waves of civil unrest over the past year.
The competition is open to all and is being organised by the Turkish Association of New Zealanders.
“It’s a very good opportunity for us to engage with our friends and neighbours in our community and learn more about what Turkey has to offer,” says Mr Cemil.
“It gives us an opportunity to have a face-to-face conversation with a Turkish speaker, or with people from Turkey in general.”
For the participants, it’s also a way of getting some exposure to the language.
“The first round of the competition was held in November and the next two rounds will be held in March and April.
Organizers say more than 100,000 participants have registered so far.
Participants have to have at least a basic knowledge of Turkish and English to enter.
Organisers hope to expand the competition to other parts of the world.
