article AUSTRALIA: Swahili is a language spoken in Swahiland, an impoverished country on the border with Botswana, Botswana is the world’s most populous country and is the third-largest economy in Africa.
Swahis have become a globalising, multi-lingual language with more than 300 million speakers.
Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore have also introduced new official languages.
The United States, France and Great Britain have adopted the language.
Swashbuckling British actor Richard Madden, who played an English-speaking character, was a member of the Swahils military band during World War I and later joined the Royal Australian Air Force.
